This course is an important part of our primary goal - to introduce a SharpReading approach to reading instruction across your school, so there is continuity of cutting-edge practice. This has huge implications (positive ones) for teacher implementation (and preparation time) as well as student achievement.
Having an in-school coach (or coaches) makes this a long-term reality.
The assumption is that you are interested in this course because of some previous SharpReading training you have done, or your school is looking for someone to lead SharpReading in your school!
Here are a list of criteria that we think are important for a SharpReading Coach
Someone who 'gets' SharpReading and wants to see it embedded into their school curriculum
You may have volunteered for this role or been recognised by management as a SharpReading 'champion'.
Someone who wants to develop coaching skills
Our Coach Mindset is quite unique and develops some significant skills and leadership experiences which can be transferred across all curricula.
Someone who is an accredited SharpReading teacher
If you are not quite there yet don't let that get in the way. We can get that sorted while you are working on this course.
As with all of our ONLiNE Courses we provide you with well-structured learning steps with clearly stated Learning Outcomes for each lesson so that you can monitor your own progress through the course at your own pace..
However, this training is a bit different.
There are two modes of learning included here:
PART 1: Complete the in-your own-time lessons and practical assignments in the ONLiNE Course and we will list you as a Provisional SharpReading Coach.
This means you have acquired the knowledge and the skills to be able to step into the initial role of a School Coach
You can step up as the SharpReading go-to person, fielding queries and sorting issues that arise
You can monitor whether regular Year Level or teaching group meetings are occurring
You can make sure new teachers have signed up for the courses they need
You can monitor their progress through those courses
You can provide informal interventions (model lessons, team teach lessons)
HOWEVER, we are NOT yet ready to fully unleash you on your colleagues
You are NOT yet authorised to run full observation and feedback sessions with your teachers
We need to verify that your data collection is accurate and you can successfully navigate the potential minefield of giving feedback to your colleagues.
Consequently, you will NOT be able to collect, collate, and analyse the data that comes from those sessions.
That will also mean you are NOT yet authorised to accredit other teachers.
This will all be sorted in the second part of the course which will result in your full COACH ACCREDITATION
PART 2: Coach Mentoring for Coach Accreditation
The latter units in the course outline this mentoring process but the actual mentoring takes place during 'live' coaching situations in the classroom.
We can easily incorporate this into the In-School Support sessions that we recommend in STEP 4 of School-wide Implementation AND we can do this ON-SITE or OFF-SITE (via Zoom meetings).
That means the cost is covered by the in-school consultancy fees. You get double the value for your money.
COST of Coach ONLiNE Course: $250 NZ (+GST) per coach
COST of Mentoring and Coach Accreditation:
There is NO additional cost if your school has engaged a SharpReading Consultant for In-School Support. The mentoring occurs as the coach-in-training accompanies the consultant as they provide In-Class support.
