'It's great to have one approach that covers Year 0 through to Year 8' Alice, DP Mangere Central School
Are you looking for a systematic approach to reading instruction across the whole school?
One that is deeply embedded in The Science of Reading and a structured approach to literacy?
That means a strong emphasis on expicit teaching, a robust phonics programme, small group routines for developing decoding fluency, clear processes for habituating skills for constructing meaning and finally, a clever introduction to critical thinking. Alternatively, you may just need an approach to deal with comprehension (Stages 3 & 4) as student emerge from their Structured Literacy programme in Yrs 0-3.
We can customise your School-Wide PD to meet whatever your specific needs and budget constraints are. We have tried and proven systems in place with checks and balances to make sure you get the full benefit of continuity throughout the school.

We will work with teachers in their classroom to model, team teach, observe, and problem-solve until we get the implementation right.
STEP 5
Identify your champions and we will train them to be experts within the school to maintain the fidelity and longevity of SharpReading.
New to SharpReading?
Start with Stage 3 - this is the most likely point where SharpReading can make a significant impact - Comprehension instruction
Why? - Most schools have a decent phonics program running in Years 1-3 but there are often gaps after that - What do we do next?
We do cater for the beginner reader with SharpPhonics and Stages 1&2 Developing Decoding Fluency, but we have found that initially, we get the biggest impact from comprehension instruction. This is the area which is traditionally misunderstood and poorly delivered.
Run a Trial before you make a commitment. Find out what SharpReading looks like and whether it is going to fit the needs of your school. Book a consultation and find out what this looks like!
