COURSE TITLE: "Developing Decoding Fluency"
Beginner readers need a clear routine that allows them to recognise and habituate the use of all of those phonic strategies they have been learning. This dovetails perfectly into Structured Literacy and the use of decodable text.
This workshop will get you using our '5 Bits' routine with readers at PM Level 1 through to PM Level 20 and cover the following:
1. SharpReading Theory about decoding acquisition
Making the most of those daily 10 minute guided reading lessons.
Where do decodable texts fit?
Supporting orthographic mapping
2. Modelling and practice of our '5 Bits' routine
You can make a start with this in your classroom the next day!
3. Managing the Challenge

"I have been working my way through the online course and then decided to do a start-up webinar. That was a great idea. Being face-to-face with the writer of the course helped me sort out the details that I wasn't sure about. Practising the routines with you Hilton and getting your feedback was great! "

Why have a Start-Up Webinar?
Many teachers love the at-your-own-pace, in-your-own-time learning that our ONLiNE Courses offer. But we also know that in our frantic teaching world, sometime it really pays to have an event to get the training off to a good start.
So here is your event - a four-hour webinar with the writer of the course who will get you inspired with what we think is our unique approach to reading instruction. We are great believers in 'The Science of Reading' and will show you our alignment. We will answer your questions and talk you through the routines that have proven to make such a difference to students reading achievement and motivation for reading.
You will be all fired up and ready to make a start in your classroom the very next day!
How much do these webinars Cost?
These webinars are part of the ONLiNE Course PLUS Webinar package called BASIC PLUS.. When you purchase a Start-Up Webinar you also get 12 months access to the online course.
So, your face-to-face top-quality PD from the writers of the course is only $56 NZD!
How often are these Start-Up Webinars offered?
Regularly. That way we can keep them small (usually less that 10 attendees).
Usually, Weeks 2 and 7 (NZ Terms) are our scheduled Webinar Weeks during the term and we also offer a round during the first week of the holidays.
Our standard times are 12noon-4pm NZ time so that teachers from other time zones can attend. During daylight savings (NZ) it gets a little more complicated.
BUT if that isn't going to work for you, then PLEASE contact us and we will customise a special event for YOUR school. We can even run 2 x 2-hour workshops after school.
